I had that problem. I dropped it and it started working again.
I wouldn't recommend that and rather go to the place the person below me said to go.

I know how to fix your PS2. ^^ If you go to this site... [link] There's a section on how to fix it. apparently, a lot of people were having this problem. (Includin me) Unfortunately, I bought a new one before I found out I could fix it. -_-....
But anyway, if you go to that site and scroll down some, you'll see a section called 'More From X-Play'. And underthat is the linkie that says 'Fix Dreaded PS2 Disc Read Error'. And there ya go. Hope it works for you.^^
Also...one more thing. With my older PS2, the one that didn't work, I later just took it apart and just kinda messed around with it...and it started working again. Hehe.
